My name is Vicky, and I am the Country Nursing Director for Diaverum Hellas. From a young age I knew what I wanted to do with my life, and that was to make a difference in other people’s lives, so I decided to become a nurse.

My career in renal nursing has been marked by a series of significant milestones that have both challenged and inspired me to continually seek excellence in patient care and professional development.

One of the earliest milestones was obtaining my Master's degree, which deepened my understanding of patient care. Subsequently, joining the dialysis unit at a prestigious university hospital in Athens provided me with invaluable hands-on experience and the opportunity to work alongside some of the best minds in nephrology. Another pivotal moment was becoming a member of the Executive Committee of the European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses Association/European Renal Care Association (EDTNA/ERCA), which allowed me to influence renal care practices on a continental scale. Furthermore, my role in the Scientific Committee of the Hellenic Nephrology Nursing Association (HENNA) has been instrumental in shaping policies and advancing the standards of nephrology nursing in Greece.

When I felt it was time to take the next step in my career, my decision to join Diaverum Hellas was driven by a desire to be part of a global leader in renal care that prioritises patient-centered care and innovation. Diaverum’s reputation for clinical excellence and its commitment to continuous professional development were compelling factors. I was particularly drawn to the organisation’s holistic approach to dialysis and its care delivery model, which emphasises not only the medical but also the emotional and social well-being of patients. This alignment with my professional values makes Diaverum the ideal choice for advancing my career while making a tangible difference in the lives of patients.

As the Nursing Director at Diaverum Hellas, my responsibilities are multifaceted and focus on ensuring the highest standards of care across our facilities. My main duties include overseeing the clinical operations of our dialysis units, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and implementing evidence-based practices, corporate policies & procedures to enhance patient outcomes. I am also deeply involved in staff training and professional development, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence. Another key aspect of my role is to facilitate effective communication between our multidisciplinary teams, ensuring that our patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care. Moreover, I work closely with healthcare administrators and operations to advocate for the needs of our patients and staff, aiming to influence positive changes in the healthcare system.

To students planning to become nurses, my one piece of advice is to cultivate a deep sense of empathy and dedication to lifelong learning. Nursing is not just a profession; it is a calling that requires both compassion and a commitment to staying abreast of the latest medical and technological advancements. Embrace every opportunity for professional growth, whether through advanced education, attending conferences, or participating in research. Always remember that at the heart of nursing is the patient. Strive to understand their needs, fears, and aspirations, and let that understanding guide your practice. Your journey will be challenging, but it will also be incredibly rewarding, as you will have the privilege of making a profound difference in people's lives every day. By following this path, you will not only achieve professional success but also contribute meaningfully to the field of nursing and the well-being of your patients.
